What would be the best water temperature for your flowers? This is a tough one, Only the experienced observer can handle this situation. The warmer the water the faster the flower will bloom and wilt. The colder the water, maybe the stem will not able to carry water to its flower. Room temperature is recommended in most of the situations.
Pruning and removing all the foilage below water level of the vase is the next step.
Removing foliage below the water line will minimize them decomposing in your vase. That will affect the bacteria and fungi growth, which will eventually block the flower stems drinking water. I would far rather have two or three lilies of the valley gathered for me by a person I like, than the most expensive bouquet that could be bought!
If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change.
A flower teaches us how to love.
“Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.”
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine to the mind.
I love your roots, not the flower everybody sees!
Not all tap water is good for flowers. Minerals can block the water uptake from flower stems. Some have high levels of Sodium effect on Roses and Fluorides effects Freesia and Gerberas. As soon as you received a bunch of flowers, it's recommended to use warm water to dehydrate them. Because warm water contains less air and run smooth on flower stem to its bud and leafs. Some flowers need boiling water and some 100 degrees Fahrenheit (Ca. 38°C) warm. Most tap water contains bacteria and fungi. Hot water eventually kills most of them.
The container which you keep flowers, the tools you use needs to be clean to avoid bacteria, fungi growth. If possible sterilise them with chlorine/bleach solution. Because the growth of them ill rotten the stem and block flowers drinking water. Also, vase life can be extended in such flowers by adding antibacterial agents like floral food but yet it's highly recommended using a clean vase, washes the cut stems to avoid plant debris getting mix up with water. Floral food helps to extend vase life doing two services at once. It contains sugar as nourishment for the flowers and biocides to control fungi and bacteria. Some contains additional acidifier to lower the pH level of water.
After unwrapping your bouquet, you may get red of the damaged leaves and petals if there are any. If you received roses with thorns most preferable method of removing them is a strong cloth glove. The idea is not to scrape the stem and to avoid minimum damages to the stem. Check the end of the stems if they are fresh fiber and if not cut diagonally with a sharp knife about two to three cm lengths from the bottom till you find e resh fiber. It's a good practice to cut the stem under water by means submerged, rinse the lower part, place them in a clean vase with floral food and repeat in every three to four days.
